Love, love, love this trip!

May-2019

If you’re debating whether to book a trekking trip with Himalayan Social Journey, here’s my advice: just do it. It’s probably one of the most rewarding and life-affirming experiences you’ll ever have. I’ve just returned from a 14-day adventure and feel like I left a piece of my heart in stunning Nepal. As a solo traveller, I went with an open mind and no expectations and came back with new friends, amazing experiences and beautiful memories. Himalayan Social Journey take care of everything and offer a rich and diverse itinerary. From trekking in Nepal’s foot hills, to jungle exploration, elephant bathing, cultural city tours and relaxing at 5* forest resorts. This trip has it all. Key highlights: 1. The mountains – you get several opportunities to see the Annapurna range (weather dependent) from different tea houses, an early morning march up to Poon Hill to see the sunrise break over the peaks, and a simply breath-taking Everest flight (you need to pay extra for this but, trust me, it’s worth it). 2. The trek – we walked from Nayapool to Urrlerri, Ghorepani, Deurali, Tadapani, Ghandruk – through beautiful little hill villages with stunning scenery. 3. The trekking group - I met a fantastic group of like-minded people (10 Aussies). You do everything together – from eating all your meals to scaling many steps – so you bond quickly and dig deep together. 4. What made the trip really special was our trekking guide, Binod, and the porter crew – Prakash, Shishir, Sujan, Ramesh. As well as Narendra and Sagar. Binod is an absolute legend. A charming and experienced guide, he knows all about the flora and fauna, and is always happy to answer questions. He went out of his way to look after every member of our group so well. He’s also got a few card tricks up his sleeve and will probably teach you to play Dhumbal! The porters are incredible – so much energy and happiness. It was great to trek with them. They look after you like kings and queens and nothing is too much trouble for them. I’m going to book again with Himalayan Social Journey to do a harder trek in 2020. I would recommend booking directly with HSJ rather than a third party travel agent. I liaised with Usha and Reeya who were brilliant and responded quickly and warmly to all emails. I can genuinely say you are in safe hands with Himalayan Social Journey. It's a great company, an amazing experience, a beautiful country with simply wonderful people. Thank you, Ram and the HSJ team.

A taste of everything Amazing that is Nepal!

Our daughter had completed the trek to Everest base camp a year ago with this fantastic company. She loved it so much she asked us to come with her. We had never trekked, nor had we done a group tour before. Not surprisingly we were a little worried before we arrived. Would we be able to complete the trek? How would we go on a tour, always on the move etc. Our worry disappeared the moment we landed at the airport and met our tour guide, Mingmar Sherpa. He instantly put us at ease with his perfect English, his easy going manner and his quick wit. Mingmar stayed with us for the entire trip. Instead of feeling like we were under pressure we felt the exact opposite - relaxed and cared for. Mingmar knew what we wanted or needed BEFORE we even asked. He was a true delight. The whitewater rafting was hilarious and so much fun. We saw monkeys and vultures and just had a great day. Yes we got wet, yes we were a little cold (it’s mid winter),but all of that added to our fun. Our 6 day trek was incredible. We had 2 porters - Deepak and Dikbir and boy were they fantastic. They too worried about our happiness and enjoyment as their main priority. No matter what the day had bought and how heavy the load they had carried .. they just always smiled and helped and were so happy. The weather for us was perfect at the right times - clouds lifted on the morning of our Poonhill summit. Sunrise was breath taking on top of the world. The view was incredible. It rained a little only on part of 1 day ... no problem .. rain covers were purchased (cheaply) and we continued. Snow fell in thick glorious flakes but only for the last 15 mins before we reached Gorapani... instead of being cold we were exhilarated. Snowmen and a thick white blanket just added to the beauty. Then, when we thought it could not get any better .. it did. We peaked another summit, sun shining and a half metre of fresh powder ... and saw, what felt like, the entire world before us. Mountains and hills in every direction. That same day, we faced tough and icy steps over a steep descent. I was scared but the “boys” rallied, held my hand, cleared a safe snow path, and quietly whispered words of encouragement to keep me going. It was a splendid thing that day. I put my fear aside and just believed in the boys, I knew nothing bad would happen in their care. We were a small group of 5, plus the 3 boys! We became a little family so quickly. It was sad to say goodbye to Dikbir and Deepak at the end of the trek. After the trek we had glorious accommodation with hot showers and we ate some amazing meals in Pokhara. Then we headed to Chitwan national Park. Amazing accomodation (we upgraded our package and it was money well spent). We were on the border of the national park and saw wild deer as soon as we arrived. We did the rainforest walk and came across more deer, mongoose, monkey and birds. It was fantastic, but we didn’t met the one horned rhino! Next day, we boarded our gorgeous elephant and headed out again .. YES we saw rhino!!! AND WE SAW A ROYAL BENGAL TIGER! It was rare to see and topped off our trip in a way we could not have imagined. The last few days we spent relaxing at the final resort. Also fantastic. Nepal is amazing. The Nepalese are the kindest people. The scenery is breath taking. Our guide fantastic. Our porters incredible. The trip - one filled with lifetime memories. We will be back, and we will definitely use Himalayan social journey. Value for money YES!!!
